1. Route:
Route: Szentgotthárd – Máriaújfalu - Hársas-Lake – Apátistvánfalva – Orfalu – Farkasfa – Máriaújfalu - Szentgotthárd
Distance: 27 km
Type: The hiking route, by touching certain villages of the Rába-country, presents the folk architectural heritages and natural values. The tour can be accomplished with an average condition. It has a longer version, starting from Apátistvánfalva and touring through Kétvölgy towards Orfalu, or if we tour from Farkasfa towards Szalafő to visit the Open air Folklore Museum.
Sights:
• The hiking route starts from Szentgotthárd towards Máriaújfalu then Lake Hársas. Lake Hársas in a wonderful environment provides an excellent occasion to interrupt the hiking tour, relax and swim in case of good weather.
• In Apátistvánfalva we recommend to visit the late baroque style Roman Catholic Church built in 1786, the fungus exhibition and the 5 km long study path starting from the church.
• Orfalu is one of the seven Rába-country settlements inhabited by Slovenians. Excellent example for the sparse settlement structure. We recommend visiting: folk houses in Fő street and the tóka (little pond) in the yard.
• In Fő Street of Farkasfa there are some typical wooden harrow-walled house and in the main square the wooden belfry.
